I've recently bought a pair of Genelec 8020-monitors. They have individual volume-controllers, meaning each time I turn them on, I have to adjust the volum on both of them - which is annoying in the long run. To solve this, I've attached both of them (together with the mixer) to a power extension cable with a power-switch. Result: When I switch on the power on the extension cable, the monitors (set to the correct volume) get power. When I switch off the power of the extension cable, the monitors lose their power (but are still set to the correct volume)
My question is this: Could this in any way harm the monitors? The fact that they're not shut off properly, but that the power to them is just cut and put back again and again?
If yes, any smart suggestions as to how I can adjust the volume on both of the monitors at the same time? Linking them together would give me only mono, as far as I can see...

As long as you have the volume down it is just a switch on and off of the energy and it is exactly the same as the sw behind you're monitors, so don't worry it won't burn out or anything, just make shure ( like I said before) put you're input signal down and no problem it all. :)

You will likely be fine. If the device isn't running off of line voltage there is some sort of transformer in there. The main power is almost always simply cutting the supply to that transformer. So the speaker don't know the difference if you're hitting the switch on/off, or just "pulling the plug". That doesn't hold true for EVERY electronic though... but amps usually. To be 100% sure you could find a schematic or take the amp plate off the speaker and see how it's wired.
