Johann Sebastian Bach!
My favorite of the "B" brothers of classical, he was a true musical genius.
"While Bach's fame as an organist was great during his lifetime, he was not particularly well-known as a composer."
Wut?

Actually he almsot disappeared (other than the church) until "rediscovered" by Mendelssohn. This despite the incredible output of incredibly wonderful stuff.
If you've never heard an 8 part fugue - check out his first motet - "Singet dem Herrn". Even Mozart was blown away when he heard it and asked to see a score.
