I am starting to do some drum tracks, and I have gotten to the point where the simple GM drums just aren't cutting it anymore.
I want to record electronica style drums (tr808 or 909 style). I have Cubase SX 2 and Soundfonts and a simple MIDI controller keyboard. Ideally, I would like to use a general midi drum map, as simpler is better.
How do I do this? VST instruments? Soundfonts? Could someone point me in the direction of decent free software?
I know my questions aren't very specific, but I'm new to the world of midi, and I don't even know how to get started.
If you want FREE software for this, get Propellerheads ReBirth.
If you want FREE software for this, get Propellerheads ReBirth. It is a software emulation of a TB-303 and an TR-808 and 909. They used to charge for it but last year they offered it FOR FREE.
If you want something a little different get SonicCharge's microTonic. It is a friggin EXCELLENT electronic drum machine allowing you to get all the 808 and 909 sounds PLUS billions more. It ain't free but it's pretty darn cheap.
Those are your best options.
