Dear Membership,
I recently changed from a dedicated digital recorder to a PC-based recorder using MBox. I configured a Dell Inspiron 8600 to Digidesign's specifications, and use a port replicator. That replicator has a digital coax (SPDIF) output. I was hoping to use my powered monitors as both my studio monitors and as general speakers for computer use. I ran the SPDIF line to the appropriate input on the Mbox, and ran out of the MBox to my monitors. Nothing. What would you suggest is the most elegant connection considering my objective, and is it even possible? Any other advice before I approach the rather intimidating learning curve is also much appreciated. Thank you.

You would need to open a stereo input on the PT mixing desk for a signal to flow ...
BUT
I just don't think is a wise idea.
There is a Digi ASIO direct driver thingy
... BUT even so I think it is a crap idea.
SPDF carries a word clock and you don't need the DELL getting in the way.
Get a set of computer speakers and use the Main monitors just for PT.
