All:

I hope this doesn't seem inappropriate (Ben, JoeH - if you feel that it is, let me know) but I've posted an opening for an intern on the job posts section of this forum. Since it is for a classical engineer, I thought I'd inform you guys in this forum.

The offering is here:
(Dead Link Removed)
and is for a low/no paid intern position (Cigars not included )

Thanks!
J...

I don't think it's out of line at all, at least not how you're referencing it. (It also ties in to some questions Exultavit had about the "Care and feeding" of assistants.)

I smiled at much of what you wrote in the "job spec." as well. (Knodding knowingly, too!) I'm on the same page about food, too... gotta keep the troops happy. I don't think it's unreasonable to buy lunch or some kind of snack once the hard work is over and the gig is set up, ready to go, waiting for the house to open, long before the downbeat. (Heck, I usually get a cup of coffee out of the deal, too.) Since I work such odd strange hours, my main assistant is here all kinds of evening hours, and he often gets to eat whatever we're having here. (used to be pizza's and cheesesteaks till the Atkins thing kicked in... ;-)

This is probably going to be another topic (care and feeding of assistants...literally!) but it's another area that has some depth to it, worth discussing.

One thing I'll mention (that you alluded to, I think, in the job spec) was conflict of interest and proprietary clients. I haven't had to put it into writing, (yet) but I'm thinking that someday I may have to....something along the lines of the pre-existing "no contact" clients rule, or 50 mile radius of no-compete with my existing accounts. It should go without saying, but we all know it's a big bad world out there, and things get weird when people get hungry. (another FOOD analogy again...)

I wish this internship was around NYC, coz I'd been searching and searching for any studio that does mostly Classical recordings, but no luck!

Please if anyone out there knows similar internship available around NYC, I would jump on the opportunity. (I'm a student hoping to specialize in acoustic recording)

Thanks in advance!
