Hey, I've been trying to record my bass on my computer, using Cakewalk and even Sound Recorder, but have run into problems - I can plug my bass into the line in (the one next to the headphone socket .. ?) just fine, but under the Sound tab in Control Panel it says the "Rec Playback" part of my sound card is currently unavailable, and I'm assuming this is why the computer can't pick up sound played on my bass - does anyone have any idea how to make that option available, or in general any way to get this sound recording to work?

Basically, the rec playback option works, but when I plug my bass in it becomes unavaliable, and the microphone/line in option become avaliable - is this correct? If so, how come my computer won't pick up the sound of my bass?

I have no idea what is going on.

If by "rec playback" you mean "stereo mix" (I hate these damn custom drivers with their stupid control panels) then, err... you're using Vista, right?

I would check that you have selected the Line Input (should be a blue jack) as your record source, and that it's turned up.
