I'm looking for the best and most affordable way to set up our church's sound system for live multitrack recording of the worship services.

We are using a Soundcraft Ghost (http://www.soundcraft.com/product_sheet.asp?product_id=27) for the live sound mix and right now I am simply using the stereo Mix B outputs into my computer's soundcard for the recording. I want to set it up so that I can record at least 12 tracks simultaneously from the board either directly to the computer or to some other device and then mix them down at home later. (I use Adobe Audition). Future plans are to produce CDs good enough to sell.

I would greatly appreciate any advice, ideas and recommendations you have as to what we need to get for the best set up. Our budget is limited but quality and room for future growth is still the highest concern.

Thanks in advance!

To begin

Your desk has all the direct and group outs you'll need.
The base of your computer is adequate.

You will need:

1. A/D conversion for at least 12 channels. This will probably go up to 16 since most numbers in that area are multiples of 8. Prices depend on the quality you're after.
2. An extra HDD for audio of at least 160GB. I suppose it has to be a silent drive.
3. Maybe an extra 512MB RAM.
4. Maybe a few measures to have your PC as quiet as possible, depending on how quiet it is already.

I will leave the choices of brand and make to the big guys.

Get something like the Alesis multitrack hard disk recorder with removable drive bays. They're very affordable and work good. Plug it into all of the direct outputs on the desk. Take the FireWire adapter and plug it into your computer at home to dump into a much larger hard drive that you will purchase and install. Now you're ready to mix. Now that was simple. (I love Adobe Audition)

I believe! (I'll smoke another one)
