Hi guys I have a sm 81 and a sp b1 mic as well as a pair of the Ecm-8000 omnis. Now heres the dilemma. Do I get another B1 and use them as overheads and the sm 81 on hi hat OR do I get another Sm 81 and use them on overheads with the B1 on hi hat? Or do i simply get a pair of the SP C4s? thanks alot

And I disagree with Tripster above. Picking up the whole kit has more to due with mic placement, the drum kit, and the dude playing it than it does which SD or LD mics you choose. I find LD mics in general for OH duty pick up more of the room and less of just the kit which sometimes is a good thing and other times not. The smaller and more reflective the room is, the more this tends to be a problem.

It depends on what you want to accomplish with the overheads. If you want to pick up mostly just symbols, go with SD condensers like the SM81's or the C4's. If you want to pick up more of the whole kit, use LD condensers like the B1's.
I have used both LD and SD condensers for hihat, but most of the time the SD (SM81) works better in this spot.
The only thing I ever use omni mics on a kit for are room mics.
