I've been looking to get new monitors myself and recently spent a rainy Monday afternoon at the studio room of Victor's House aof Music, an affiliate of AMS. I brought a reference CD and spent a good 45 minutes by myself comparing a number of monitors, including the Genelec and Mackie you mentioned. I was very surprised that I kept coming back to the Yamaha HS80M active montors.

Now, picking a monitor is a very personal affair, but I found the Yamaha to have the least coloration of the speakers that were in that room. At about $500.00 for a pair on Ebay these days, you could save the rest of your money for something else.

This is a subject that can get alot of panties in a wad very quick. So I usally don't post in these threads, But...........

I won't tell you what to buy , but I will tell you what I use.
I use the Mackie 824's. Didn't like them at frist. But when I got my room treated right and learned what all those switch's on the back are for. Then I started to like them. I have been using them for about two years now and I haven't had any of my mixes sent back from the mastering house to be remixed. I have been told that I'm making his job to eazy.

Don't do what I did and buy alot of crap montiors till you get a pair that will work. I don't think there is nothing any better in the price range. I would love to have a better pair but I would have to shell out alot of bucks to make a improvment from what I got!

Don't take my advise..............Go listen and choose your own.
