hi,
can 2 digital S/PDIF pieces be connected by your average analog rca cable?

also 1 more, is there a quality loss or reason why you should not use an XLR to unbalanced 1/4" cable to connect gear to a patchbay. ie: balanced in/out of DA-30 to an unbalanced patchbay?

Anthony, you can't use an rca cable to connect, but you can use an rca style cable intended for video. That way you can save $20 per cord.

You won't destroy your studio by going from xlr to 1/4, as long as it's TRS(tip, ring, sleeve) Just try to make sure that if it starts out as xlr output, it goes into an xlr input.
Patch bay connectors are usually TRS, so a three conductor wire can be continued through this device without an unacceptable amount of degradation.
