Hello,
I am looking for a workstation, and am considering purchasing one of the KORG Triton line. I am especially interested in good piano/strings sounds, although also looking for variety, much flexibility, good sound quality. Thoughts on the Triton (and particular models--e.g. LE, Studio), or equivalents at lesser price?
Thanks.

Have you checked out the Triton rack? I own one and it does great for all of the midi tracking I shove at it. Also the rack version has more expansion capabilities than does the "classic" keyboard version. Also the motif rack is another "must have" synth module. I own a Kurzweil K2500RS that I think has some killer piano tones. I lucked up on it one day, maxed out with memory for about a grand.

I know this is kind of out of left field, but have you thought of running gigastudio on your PC? If you have a controller, a sequencer(Sonar) and a sampler like gigastudio, you could run a set of the Garritan Orchestra samples...and they sound way better than any synth I've ever heard.
Just a thought...not sure if this is up your alley or not.

I have the garriton strings samples on my gigastudio. If you want strings that sound like real violins etc then there is no comparison between them and the Roland or Kurzweill strings. BUT. Many producers and keyboard players have become used to the fast attack that you get with roland or kurzweill. A real viloin does not have instant attack (you have to bow it) so the gariton strings don't always work foor R&B or hip hop.
We usually blend the garriton and the kurzweill strings when we want attack and a fully textured string sound.
Once again artificial is what we have become used to so real strings do not always get the job done.

what type of music?
i own a Triton studio.. its great for any type of music and can expand like crazy...
i maily produce r&b and hiphop..
if your looking for great piano/stings..
no one has roland on the strings.. mods like the 5050..
piano's.. i'd have to go with the k2600.. the triton you can expand and get a moss card andyour piano/stings would be great.. my triton just happens to be the classic, studio and part motif.. i just loaded a boatload of sounds into it..
the next board i plan on getting is the new Fantom S to go with my TS.. you may wanna check it out.. i really like it..and its not what..$1400
