I am recording a sax. I have a sm58 and a condensor mic. This is a home studio. No isolation. Any thoughts on best Micing technique for my situation?
Thanks in advance

What condensor do you have? It can make a big difference. Regardless of what you use, set it up about a foot and a half in front of the instrument, level with (or a little higher than) the left hand, but pointed to the bell. If you want a darker, more mellow sound point it off center from the bell. If possible, use some sort of a makeshift gobo to get even a little of isolation. Be sure to use the mic's polar pattern to your advantage if other instruments are tracked at the same time. (the sm58's is cardioid, so point it 180 degrees away from the drums for best rejection)
good luck
