I'm using a Realtek HD audio card and I'm recording with Acid Xpress 5.0. I'm trying to record vocals over a music track and I want the music to play through headphones while I'm recording, but it records the vocals and the music track together instead of giving me the vocal track by itself. I downloaded Audacity and it did the same thing so I think the problem is with the sound card. If anyone has any tips on solving this problem that would be great.

Open the windows mixer. if it's not on the toolbar on the bottom right of the screen, go to control panel - sound and audio devices and under device volume, press advanced. then options - properties, under mixer device select input, now you will get a mixer for all the inputs. I think it's the stereo mix causing problems, so mute it, if not, mute all of the channels u don't use.

Anyone who refuses to upgrade an onboard soundcard deserves to remain unplugged AND unsigned!! Audio I/O devices are just to reasonably priced these days for committed individuals. Granted being committed can be a stumbling block. But get the nurse to sneak out and get you something decent for recording. And use the blocks for your percussion section!!!
Merry Christmas!!!!

Damn space lol! I never said I refuse. Just havent needed too. Mine does well for what I use it for. Im not looking for a Recording Contract anyway. My onboard soundcard recorded the demo's that got my pub deal. Besides I've seen plenty of idiots with better gear that in now way put forth a better sound. Not to mention my publisher pays for studio time on fully produced demo's.
