Let's hope the whip effect didn't kill it either. Talk about moving air across the diaphragms! Maybe Shure needs to develop one of those C & T mics into a stereo ribbon.

Visualizing what CAN go wrong in any given situation should become habit. If it were me, seeing that stand sitting so close to the edge of the stage would have given me shudders enough to break out my roll of 4" wide gaffer's tape and secure that stand to the floor.
