I tried searching this forum for some ideas, but either I couldn't think of the right search string, or there isn't much on it, so .

I'm recording two tracks max through a Mackie 1202VLZ into a Core2Duo Mac mini. The mini allows 24 bit recording and playback, and I'm getting sound quality that satisfies me, but in a response here I remember a comment that this direct-in method would be commiting some sort of recording sacralige. Really?

('Just discovered that this subject has been hashed to death with the general idea that the internal sound stuff is not good. 'Only had to go back one page to find a thread. OK, nevermind. 'Typical newbie dumb post.)

Not the best of quality, an interface could also provide HiZ input for guitar/ bass, and 48v phantom power.

All modern macs all come with optical SPDIF, that can be combined with a high end preamp for excellent results.

A combo plug/cable must be used though.

I suggest an interface for more rugged jacks and better monitoring options.

If you damage the connectors by hanging adaptors off of your mini, it will require a new motherboard.
