While this might be some cool student project by MIT goofballs? This isn't really new. The FBI has been using similar techniques with lasers, for well over 30 years now. And the Russians using piezoelectric bugs in embassies. This is all just a variation on those themes. They've just figured out the algorithm to obtain similar results through high-speed video cameras. And even only 30 frame per second video cameras. Which they also cited examples from. Not that we're going to be listening to any blowing sand of aliens speaking on Mars, through the rovers. Where this would still work in the incredibly thin atmosphere of only carbon dioxide. But where the hell could you find a bag of potato chips on Mars? Probably from where all the Martians get theirs? Down the dunes and around the crater and take your first left at the crevice.
