I am doing transfer's from IZ Radar drives to Pro Tools. There is a new software called DAMSEL that transfer's the data from Radar drives to other formats i.e. SDII, BCW or AIFF files. In our expermentation to find the fastest transfer time, I have some questions for any Mac users. We tested a Mac G4 powerbook running a 500 Mhz processor on a 100 Mhz bus with 256 ram. Then we tested a 466 power mac running a 133 Mhz bus and 1 Ghz of ram. We have been told by the makers of Damsel that the amount of RAM does not play a big part in the transfer speed. With the 500 powerbook a 6 minute song 24 tracks took 10 minutes and 10 seconds to transfer. The 466 took 8 minutes and 10 seconds to transfer. Anyone have any ideas as to why the 466 is faster that the 500?

Indeed, memory has no play in the speed of a system. It helps the processor a little bit but it's more due to the system architecture of the machine more so than the processor itself. Also probably due to the ATA controller speeds as well.
The motherboard also has a huge factor in it as well. I know that there are a few different models, Sawtooth and some other brands that they came out with that have different performance options on them. This is your bottleneck.
