powercore and uad is just their own plugins running on a seperate processor....
so they're not expanding your processing power as you cannot run anything else on them.....
they also induce latency.... i measured 512 samples on the uad.... not a problem when mixing with adc though...

From my understanding is that it goes into your firewire slot and takes the load of the the CPU. Check this out http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PowerCoreFW/. I was looking into getting one of these but I was talked out of it and told just get a new mac g5 with a student discount and it would almost be the same price, and you would get more power. The nice thing with the PowerCore is you do get a bunch of plug ins also look into the UA DSP expansion. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/UAD1StudioPak/. This is a cheaper option and I have heard much better things about this then the powercore.
