Sub? Depends ....probably wouldn't want one if you plan to have something mixable afterwords because you'll most likely make poor judgement on the bass frequencies.

What size is your room, how loud do you want? do you track in the same room as your amp etc.?

I track and mix with 5" monitors and it's plenty loud... in a bedroom sized room

Monitors make you want to do something. It's important to know if you should do what they make you think you should do. It's possible to track or mix with any monitor that you understand.
