Hey Everyone, This is my first post here. I heard about it @ musicplayer.com I like what I see.

Anyways, Here's my situation. My studio consists of a soundcraft Ghost 24x8 s Tascam Da38's, a MOTU 2408 version 1 and a MOTU digital timepiece.Plus outboard gear... I want to Move to a DAW and have been checking out just about everything out there, PT LE, Nuendo, Sonor, etc.. and Logic seems be what I'm looking for in performance and especially Price.

I love the idea of the new Logic Control and to be honest it's what got me looking at Logic. I was almost sold on the Digi001 and realized it's limitations. After running cakewalk proaudio 9and wavelab for a while I've aquired a lot of great plugins and would be rendered usless with PT.

So here's What I think I'm going to go with . Keep my 2408 and buy a 24i,and use my Ghost as a front end. and run Logic and logic control. Anyone out there using this setup? I'd love to hear about it. The only 2 things I hear about Logic is tough to learn and not as good PT or Nuendo for audio editing, I think that's subjective but I could be wrong. A push in the right Direction would be nice. Thanks

Hello Mark
Welcome at the board

I'm just about to go the same route as you with a Ghost - do you have the automation-option within?
- kindofa logic-control by itself!
I am shure, that it will be very satisfying :D

So here's What I think I'm going to go with . Keep my 2408 and buy a 24i,and use my Ghost as a front end....

I have a MOTU 2408, a 1296 and two blackface ADATs for additional 16 Outputs.

....Logic is tough to learn and not as good PT or Nuendo for audio editing,...

It is (still)true, that logic's audioediting is not as advanced as dedicated programs (the roots of LA are MIDI- and sequencing-orientated) but catching up with audio and automation in the next major upgrade.
For me it is THE way to go for recording, composition and score - postpro or filmmusic is another interesting aspect. (I hope, they have working OMF-suppport...well, they promised to :D
LA is NOT TOUGH to learn, there is SO MUCH to learn and explore - go for it!

Niko What Version are you using? I'm still very impressed with Logic Even though I do more Audio than Midi. It's starting to be a coin toss between Logic and Nuendo. Have you tried Logic Control? The ghost only has 4 midi faders and I'm not sure if the mute atomation will work with logic?? I'm going to check that out today. Also do you bother with 24bit or keep it 16bit and avoid dithering? just curious.

Cheers,

Mark Bishop:
"What Version are you using?"

Always newest! Well - still sticking with 4.81 for serious (paid)work until I checked 5.0 more seriously.

"Also do you bother with 24bit or keep it 16bit and avoid dithering? just curious."

16 Bit does not mean no dither - if your HDs and the system can cope with the 50 percent more load: Go for 24 Bit! - I was referring to the undithered Region-fades in LA 4.x

"How's the 1296? Looks like a great pice of gear , how do the 24i converters stand up against it? Or should I sell my 2408 version 1 and go with a different rig?? Decisions, decisions. Any views?"

hmm, difficult. Make up your mind about how many outputs you need and have a look at combinations of MOTU-gear. Can you hook up your Tascams to the 2408? If so - keep it!
The 1296 is a very nice front-end (clock master) for the MOTU family - 24i yields propably not enough outputs for you.
Also have a look at RME!
