Hello...
I am wondering about how usb keyboards work. Do you just connect it to the computer with usb and the recording program interprets it like audio (usb microphone) or does it send midi commands via usb?
The biggest reason I ask is that, for some reason, my laptop won't do vsti with the onboard soundcard (drivers maybe). I can't use reaper's virtual keyboard unless I have my PreSonus fp10 connected. I'm hoping that I can use the keyboard without requiring the fp10 to be connected (like on the road).

A USB keyboard should send midi, but I doubt they have any internal sounds, so you would not be able to record an audio signal like a USB mic.
Recording without the firepod should not be a problem as long as you can open the software without it. (unlike the stinkin' protools stuff, )

What keyboard do you have? There could be a difference in the way each works. Maybe it can do both.
Do you have a manual for it?
