hi. i record onto a Yamaha aw4416 hard disk recorder and love it except for the limited editing capabilities. instead of switching over to a computer based system and losing the tactile interface and ease of use, i was thinking about transfering tracks (as wav files) to my laptop for editing. i won't need to track, use plugins or anything beyond fixing a timing mistake here and there. so what would be the simplest software to do this?
i have an 800mghz+ g3 ibook running osx now and will upgrade when a replacement for the ibook g4 comes out (with intel chip).

I use [[url=http://[/URL]="http://www.mackie.c…"]Tracktion[/]="http://www.mackie.c…"]Tracktion[/] which would also allow you to use plug-in synths and record & edit MIDI.

Do you want to transfer "multi-tracks"(Individual tracks) to the computer and mix, edit, etc, or just the "mixed-down" two track for "finishing/mastering"?
If the second, I like Wavelab(Bet you'll use the plug-ins!).
If the first(Or the second) almost anything out there should be fine - Adobe Audition, something from Steinberg that suits your budget/needs, lots of others -- almost all have "limited" versions which may suit you fine and be cheaper, too, but, I believe you'd need a multi-track soundcard/interface to do this(Transfer your "still-in-multi-track" stuff), depending on number of tracks you need to move all at once? Though you may be able to just move them over one or two at a time and incorporate them in the computer..?
Come to think about it: How does Yamaha "do it"? If it can make a "normal" 44.1/16 .wav("Data"), recording direct to CD, you might be able to just put the CD in the computer and wail away, again, with almost any audio software..? If this is what you were thinking of doing, sorry, I have no experience with the HD recorders...
BTW: Get used to editing/mixing/mastering on a computer and you might be looking for an interface to do it all on computer.....? Like to keep that "analog/tactile" thing going? A nice analog mixer or a "controller box", with all it's virtually-operating knobs may be just the ticket......
