Hello I am in the process of editing the vocals for a new mix I'm making and I'm curious about 2 things so I figured I would ask here, i'm looking for detailed answers from people with experience and knowledge and I'm thankful to anyone who can help. Here are the 2 things I am confused about.

1: Compressing Vocals (Specifically attack/release times)

Can someone elaborate on what exactly attack and release time really mean and give me tips and guidance on what settings to use?

I'm compressing rap vocals.

These are my current settings:
Attack= 1ms
Release=250ms

But I'm curious as to what settings I'm actually supposed to be using and I'm overall confused about how to pick the right settings.

2. Reducing Bass when EQing Vocals

When I EQ vocals I remove all the bass lower then the "80" frequency range. can someone tell me which frequency I should start at when reducing the bass.

As for the bass removal, I think you should start at 20, and work you way up until it sounds too thin. Then go back down.
Go up and down as needed.

FWIW, if vocals were always processed the same way, they'd invent a mic that did those things automatically. And put a USB cable on it. And sell it for $70 and make a massive profit.
