Hi everyone !

While I was relaxing, drinking a nice and fresh Belgium beer (Chimay bleu) 8) and reading some posts here at the forum, I asked to myself a silly question:

"Would it be a good time for the next GROUP PROJECT?"

OK - I pick:

4- SAWStudio

I could also do SoundsLogical ReSample, Mytek Stereo96 (hardware loopback) and r8brain (standard freeware version) - which would give you 16, 17 & 18 also if no one else picks up on those.

Are you going to mail each one of us a tape?

Sure... it will then take the last pieces of my Quantegy collection

No, I think I got the whole thing messed up and talked about dither, must have been tired or something...?

I have two options here:
Sequoia or R8brain

Best Regards

Don't do that! Until either Quantegy is truly back or ATR actually ships it's first batch it's best to hoard! Got 7 reels of 1/2" AGFA 468 kept in a locked closet for a rainy day myself.

Doesn't Sequoia use the same algorithm as Samplitude??
Do you have r8brain Pro of the freeware version? I'm very interested in hearing how the Pro version holds up.

Since no one has grabbed ReSample I'm fine with testing 3 things
(SAWStudio, Mytek Stereo96 loopback, Sound Logical's ReSample)

Just to summarize in a little easier to grasp way than what's already posted
-here's what we have commitments to test already:

1-protools-mixandmaster
2-sadie - Dave Harris
3-sequoia/samplitude-TrilliumSound
4-saw studio-steven berson
6-cubase-Digitonic
10-nuendo - Digitonic
12-apogee 200-Fossenkemper
16-mytek stereo 96- steven berson
17-adobe audition-karl zemlin
18-Sonar-lucidwaves
19-Wavelab 5-digitonic
20-digital performer 4-FIMseth
21-R8brain Freeware -Ammitsboel
23 - Soundforge - digitonic
24 - ReSample - Steve Berson

(15 in total)

and here's what's left from the original list -
5-bababatch
7-peak
8-spark
9-sonic solutions
11-weiss
13-behringer
14-lavry
15-quantum
22 - r8brain PRO

For me there's a number of things that I really wish were being included in this test - mainly the Weiss SFC-1 which I would think is the current "standard" - plus the Lavry src box which I haven't gotten to hear ever yet (and loop back via Lavry Blue would be cool to test also). The new Mytek SRC box would be nice to hear in this test also (I just have da/ad). AND it would be really nice if someone tested r8brain PRO and Barbabatch as these are 2 software src's that seem very promising.

Michael -
If you're the one creating the music file for conversion it might be good to include a test tone at the head or tail of the same file so that we can make sure that hardware loopback is level matched accurately.

I haven't really read up on what exactly is going on here, but I can do the Weiss.

I think the tone is an excellent suggestion. Also, a sample with a long 24 bit reverb tail down to 0 would probably be good. Maybe a gonger or something too....

One thing to note, I think SRC's can handle some conversion permutations better than others. For example, we'll use SADiE when going to from certain SF's, but Weiss is the only option for others. So in order to have a completely exhaustive test, you'd have to test everything up and down (well, preferably up to 96k, beyond that, does anyone really care?)

keep me posted.

Just a slight modification to what I 'll be able to test:
so since I needed a couple more channels of DA and I had a friend interested in the Mytek DA I sold the Mytek and am having a Lavry Blue with 4 channels DA shipped to me. Looking forward to the upgrade.

So I can't really test loop back of Mytek DA to Mytek AD -
instead it will be loopback using Lavry Blue DA to Mytek Stereo 96AD -
as long as tha ts'okay.

btw - I hope this doesn't turn into something like WOMPIII where it's talked about - people jump in all enthused - and then no file to work on is ever provided! It'd be really great to actually make this happen as it seems we have a nice cross section of stuff to check out now.

Best regards,
Steve Berson
