I am considering the purchase of a Grace Lunatec V3 two channel preamp with A/D converter. I am currently using a Demeter preamp and the Grace would be a very different beast. I am using a TC Gold Channel (which I got for a great price) as my AD converter (24 bits, 48 Khz) and going to an M-box.

As noted on this board, the converters in the Gold Channel "don't suck." Certainly better than the M-box.

Here is my question: are the Grace converters better than the Gold Channel converters? If so, and I use the Grace converters, I'll have to give up using my outboard analog units (comp, eq) before digitizing the signal. I can still, of course, shape my signal in the digital domain.

Second question: I was toying with getting a pair of KEL HM-1 mics to go with the Grace. Has anyone used this combination?

Thanks in advance.

Ted,

Well I can't say how they compare to the Gold Channel, but I'm extremely happy with the Preamp and Converters in the Grace V3. The preamps in my opinion are very clear not much coloring of the sound with a lot of detail. I don't think my ears are trained enough to tell the difference between good/bad converters, or at least not enough to give you an opinion to base your needs off of.

My 1st post, I typically just read forums and such, but I felt as though I could actually throw some input on this post. Hopefully more people will answer your post, thanks to all those that do share your thoughts, opinions, and experiences. People like me appreciate it!
