I had read some things about these and just happened across one when I wasnt really looking so I bought it.

Its a Peavey mic. PVM 520LN. I guess theres another model also in this family. This one I've already used side by side with my ancient Unidyne 57 and its very similar with a bit more and tighter low end. Not much in the way of proximity effect. I think you could use this mic in the same way you would an SM7b. It has a lot of detail and it seems to like different preamps. So far its gotten some work through the old ART MPA and the ISA. Next its going to record a mic'd bass amp through an API setup. At $100 this one seems like a keeper.

Never seen one of those, but the folks on Gearslutz like it. They say... It's a poor mans re20/sm7. Great mic for the price, and works well on bass drum and amps. It's one of the best used values out there.
No wonder you like it! Now watch this poor bastard go the way of the ATM25 and hit $200.....LOL!!!!

Yeah...This was my thoughts on that as well so I snatched one when I found one. I already have a couple of ATM25's....Case in point...I shoulda bought a bunch of em new when they were being blown out for $89 or $99 bucks depending on the day. Can you imagine ALL the toms on a great sounding kit with that mic!!!!

I've been kicking myself for telling the world how great my Beyer M81s are (that being one of the few search strings that brings my pitiful excuse for a web site up to page 1 on google).

I got my first pair on ebay for a fiver! Now they're going for 20x times that amount.

Never mind, I've got 5 already; I guess I shouldn't be greedy smoke
