Hello Everyone,

I need to get a pair of good LDCs, for general use, especially for Overheads and vocals.

Here's what I have now:
m-audio delta 1010
Mackie 1604 vlz pro
Hamptone VTP2 on the way

2 c1000s
1 c3000b
2 sm57
1 sm58
1 at pro37
1 AKG d112
1 Sennheiser md421

I'm thinking about the AT4050 and the many versions of the AKG c414.

1) Is there a message thread (anywhere?) that discusses the differences between the various c414 models, ULS XLS TLII ad infinium?
found some here: http://mixonline.com/mag/audio_AKG_cbxls_cbxl/index.html

2) Im leaning toward a matched pair of some kind of c414, with my tube pre, which would be an ok choice for vocals?

Thanks,

here's the brochure in a pdf file for the 414's from the akg website

http://www.akg.com/mediadatabase/psfile/datei/31/c414xls_xl4055c0ffc4faf.pdf

it goes more into depth than the mix mag article. Basically it boils down to if your going to use the 414's more for solo vocals/ instruments or not. With the XLS version having a flatter response, its more of an all purpose mic than the XLII. It seems like the XLII is better suited for lead vocals.

hope this helps
