Real quick, should i consider upgrading first, my mics or my pres. I am going to, no matter what, be picking up 2 of the groove tubes gt44 mics. but should I look into a high quality condensor/dynamic I do mostly the rock genre music. I have a bunch of mics now, but just want to see if I should start investing in high price pres, should I wait and work on my room, or look into high class mics. thanks.

mics or pre amps?

I recently bought 15 brand new mics. The mic's I have are...Shure SM57's, SM58's, Audix DP5 (drum pack), Shure KSM (condensor mic), Audix O7, Audix O5, Studio Projects C4 (cymbal mics), and a couple more somewhere around here. :?
However I only own 1 pre amp. It was just under $1000. But let me tell you what. No matter which mic I use the pre amp on the ENTIRE sound changes. BIG time!!!
So now I am looking into buying mic pre amps for every single microphone I have.
I am going to try to buy 1 at a time. Each one being around $1000. And some of the more expensive ones I want are around $2000.
In my opinion......."a mic without a pre amp can sound good but, a mic with a pre amp is bold and really clear "
Hope this helps!

It really is not a either or kind of question. They both are both important and are so intertwinded, coupled and depandant on one another that you can't consider one without the other.

The details of the music source are directly realted to how good the mic is in capturing them reguardless of the mic preamp. The better the mic preamp, the better it allows you to hear those details and can even enhance them.

mic & pre amps

What?
------------------------------------------
...and a mic without a cord does not make any sound, plus if you live in a 3rd world country where they are still are scared of fire and electricity, if is real hard to get a mic to make any sound.
In addition, I am talking to my mic collection at this very molment, but they dont speak back to me.
If I go get some more pre amps will they start making sound?
