I must admit I have a good team that I have assembled over the last few months.
Not much of the soldering is personally done by me now , thank God.That lead’s starting to really spin me out.In fact after twenty-five years of solid soldering I must have a pit of lead in my stomach or something.I’m sure there’s something there getting bigger everytime I inhale the stuff.
So yeah , they’re all good lads with complementry skills.A good team.
One is an exceptionally talented solderer who I can’t name because if he sees his name he’ll go all funny I’m sure…..then I’ll have to sack him.
But , arrggghh , that thing about my name being on there . I wouldn’t OK the gear or his soldering if I didn’t think it could bear my name you know.
It has to be 120% at least , everytime. Absoloutely perfect or the thing gets sent back and we cop the damm FN customs and return shipping.Remember our guarantee?
You know what I mean? Karma man! It always gets you.

So I’m particularly particular with proper soldering ,
I REPAIRED EQUIPMENT FOR TEN YEARS ,
I know how it can go wrong,
…..and a lot of it is because of shit soldering,
…..and a lot of it is because of shit design,
……and a lot of it is because of shit assembly.

Down with the corporates I say.

The trouble with this is when trying to operate a business you just can't have you hand in absolutely everything all the time.

I'd love to do what Seb does but I think I would drive myself spare. I just can't help myself ... even when the director is about to call action I want to run in and ' check the wheel nuts ' so to speak.

The thought of selling my babies ot a bad parent just fills me with fear. Yet I loan them out and never see them again ??? My life just deosn't make sense at times. :confused:

Yeah pride i'm not really sure.
There is pride but it's not really a dominating factor.
I don't look back you see.
In fact when i think of what i do it sometimes ruins for me...you know waste of energy...thought energy.

The unit's have to be top notch simply 'cause i have to survive off them...otherwise it's back to bloody repair work , or to FN recording/engineering and lose my ears to some stupid metal band who want more 'click' on the kick drum.

Sometimes i triple check units , before even putting the lid on.
It's hard to stop.

No-one's blown one up yet which is a good feeling.
All the ins and outs have protection , and my power supplies are always designed for heaps of headroom.

So much anxiety and attitude built up over my repair days you know.I seen so much shite it hurts.

When i get 'round to using my gear ,
now that makes me smile.

Especially the veqc-2000.God that things a beast.
I hate selling those one's actually.
They take ages to align , compressor half you know.
Goddamm there all over the place now.

As a business owner....... i understand the difficulty of "letting go" - but i also remember the way i always felt when i worked for others and they tried to micro-manage the work i did.

I suppose the trick is to surround yourself with talented people - make certain they understand "your way" of doing things and instill in them the sense of the pride and drive that you have in your product.

Then just let them do their job........ always let them know when they're doing great - gently guide them in the right direction if they're losing sight of the goal - and lose them if they burn you.

And always REWARD EXCELLENCE.

There are still workers out there - if they are given a reason to believe they have a vested interest in producing a good product - who will spend their lives protecting your business as if the money were their own.

They may be few and far in between - but they are out there......... i know - i have always been one of them. :p:

Approximitely how long is the wait if I were to order a VMP2000? Just Curious. I have been holding out for my next quality pre for a LONG time now. I've finally decided on the VMP2000, not only because of the great responces it's getting, but because you seam like a great guy to deal with. Someone who really has a passion for the product he has created. I can Really appreciate that. I'm looking forward to it.
