I'm currently in Los Angeles where my daughter's band is recording in a Pro Tools environment.

I'm seriously impressed with the Beat Detective function.

Question: is there something similar for Sonar?

Beat Detective examines the sharp transients, such as kick drum. It then does some fancy fade/positioning and aligns it directly on the click beat.

It is a timing correction tool for sloppy drummers. My daughter's drummer is awfully close in her timing, but BD put her kick dead-on with the click. It is remarkable how much this tightens up the final sound.

Kinda like AutoTune, for kick drums.

Drumagog is brilliant plugin for triggering, but doesn't help with timing. Regrettably, I think beat detective's got that market to itself.

I do it manually. Sounds better, I tell myself . . .
