I've come to realize that I've overcooked my previous mixes do to bad listening environments, so I'm using my ears AND eyes with metering. Let me know about my latest effort on a previously posted tune, "Away From It All". The higher numbered track is the most recent mix.

I guess this is a polite statement, I'd be very surprised if they were real drum. They sound fake and there is too many fills. To me the drum should support the band and vocal. As for now, it's feels like a guy who want to show off and never listened to the lyrics...
Little tips for drum mixing (acoustic or samples) a real drum is never hardly panned. if you are in front of a kit, the tom fills don't go from an ear to the other. Of course insert 'taste' any where in my post !
You see the drum bugged me so much, I wasn't able to focus on anything else and it's not due to how loud it is..

I realize that, but I think I'll keep the tom panning as something fun for the listener.

Thanks, Chris. I'm using Black Sabbath's latest CD release "13" for reference mixes, and the mixing engineer has the toms panned hard right to left (audience's perspective)
I'm doing the same thing in my mixes for two reasons.....
1) It clears out some clutter in the middle
2) It's fun for the listener!

Maybe a little less drums, that would bring out the other instruments more. Are you using compression on the drums? They sound like samples, would be nice if they were a little more open sounding.. That's me just nitpicking though.. Cool Boston meets Twisted Sister with a bit of Prog vibe tune.
