Thanks for the input on the AMEK 9098 pre's... does anyone have any input on the Langevin pre's? Colored, clean, good, bad? Good pre for massive layering? Any input appreciated.
If you've heard both the Langevin and the Amek, gimmee your opinion betwixt... :)

I find the Amek to have more balls, but it is a slightly more expensive per channel mic ($1550 compared to $1800) pre than the Langevin. The Lagevin is clear, but I wish it had more gain. Maybe it's not the purist way to be, but I find that (especially on quiet sources) I enjoy a quiet high gain mic pre such as the Amek 9098 or Great River MP-4. If want more punch, go for the Amek. If you want more neutrality I think the Langevin is more appropriate (although the Amek is by far not the most colored mic pre on the market..It is neutral in it's own right compared to many). I hope this helps a bit :) .

I'm kinda thinkin one of each over the next year... twill be my 1st (and probably only)four channels of over a grand pre's when I rebuild the setup I sold awhile back... I figure 4 will get me good coverage... overdubs, kick/snare/pair etc... I hear the Langevin is great for overheads, and I figure the "balls" of the Amek may be good skick/snare... AND, I'll have Ruperts signature in my rack! :)
