My current DAW:

PC 2.4Ghz P4 Sis chip
512 Ram ddr400 PC3200
120g HD (spread over 3 drives, 1 for programs)
MOTU2408Mk3
Logic Platinum 5.5

Now if I add more RAM can I expect increased performance in the area of number of plugs that can be ran? I do plan to add a UAD-1 and a Power Core Firewire soon as the funds are there. But in the mean time will the incresed ram help?

Thanks.

Your main problem isn't going to be lack of RAM, especially once you add UAD etc.. The main issue I have spotted is the SiS chipset. Not nice for pro applications. Get yourself an Intel chipset based motherboard and your system will be much more stable and trouble free. It's not so much that SiS is bad, it's mainly that everyone tests their hardware and writes their drivers for Intel boards and then tries a few other chipsets if they get around to it..
More RAM never goes astray though...

I noticed that also Mute but it more often comes into play with compatability issues instead of performance issues. I agree the UAD will take alot of the load off of the CPU but in the meantime the RAM increase should help.

AMG, The SIS chipset isn't the greatest and I would suggest you avoid them as well as VIA to avoid issues when you build your next DAW. If the additional RAM doesn't seem to help then Mutes suggestion of a Mobo with an Intel chipset is a good one, but if it does then I would keep your Mobo for now.

Thanks for responses...

I think I'll try another 512k of ram which will take me up to 1gig and check it as step 1. With the price of memory I see it as good start. Plus when I do build my next daw (which will be an Intel, thanx for the input there didn't even know about the issues with Sis) I can transport the ram.

Yeah can't wait to get to the UAD-1 and Powercore. A couple more jobs and I'll be there. And now we have a Guitar Center here, Just opened last Thursday. Talk about prayers being answered :P

Thanx everybody. 8)

I only have 1 gig of ram with a 3.4 pent 4 and with sonar I can record or play or both 24 plus tracks with 2-3 plugs on each track without skipping a beat. Having the two seperate hard drives I think is vital.

It is only a few months old and I am very pleased with the performance so far. I will probably double my ram since it is so cheap now just for some extra headroom.
