As a few of ya' know, I've extolled the Toft ATB. I've been looking at it really hard among the many choices out there...
I've looked at used large format; API, SSL and Neve. Generally 32 and 48 frames.
The glitch is at $125k, a large format console just doesn't make sense... they barely make sense in the $65k range... like the SSL 4056 fitted 32, I was looking at.
Digi's full blown ICON; D-Command in a 32 channel config is in the running too. The problem I have there is that before it's even delivered, it's worth half it's purchase price... or less.
Sooo... I'm looking at some of the newer mid-priced, mid-line consoles... Specifically, the API 1608B.
Aurora16's for A/D-D/A, and HD3.
Anyone wanna suggest what's wrong or what's a more economical choice in the same quality range?

You don't likely get any comments because you need to first come to you own decisions on your working style. If you think you have four choices, then you need to first pick one. I myself do the analog/digital hybird route as it offers the most flexability to use and interface my outboard gear and I am old school and like knobs and faders as well as enjoy analog summing over digital summing. If you don't have any or much outboard, or don't have a problem to mix ITB, then a consle may not really be necessary.

Yeah, it's kind of a tough topic really... so does it go here or in recording... since I had some specific gear in mind, I thought this would be as good as anywhere... s'pose not.
As far as workflow... I'm pretty much digital media (2-HD24's) and a buttload of analog gear... but I mix live on everything from Behringer and Mackie 4 buses to O2R's to Heritage 3k's.
I can, and will, adapt to track and mix on whatever I end up with or whatever I'm asked to work on. What I prefer to work on... there isn't any profitable interest in... so I'm being "forced" to go ITB with ProTools being the obvious choice of DAW.
I'll take it over to recording and see if anyone has any thoughts....

I'm either completely off the charts with everything that's going on... or I'm completely off my rocker... or both.
The view from the crow's nest is to go one of 4 directions...
1. Mix completely ITB
2. Mix completely OTB and use PT strictly as a multi-track and editor.
3. Mix hybrid... mix the majority ITB and sum OTB
4. Say "screw DAW based" and go Radar and Lg/Med Format console.
