I'm about to hit the purchase button for a PreSonus Firebox and since all the dealers are competing with each other, they are all offering free shipping and free stuff.

One is offering a Studio Projects B1 mic (which I have heard good things about on this forum) and the other is offering the Joemeek JM27, which I have never heard anything about.

Any thoughts on the two? I know neither will be the "be all, end all" of mics for me, but I would like to buy from the dealer which is offering the better mic.

I'll be recording voice (mail) and acoustic guitars (both nylon and steel), and using it for broadcast of my radio show.

Thanks for the help!

Both mics are of equal quality. Real ok, but what is to be expected at that price?

Joe Meek and Studio Projects are both PMI companies so it's reasonable to assume both these mics are most likely made at the same factory in China. The B1 is a single large diaphragm side address mic while the JM27 is a mid sized diaphragm end address mic ...

IMO, instead of wondering about the freebies, the question you should be asking yourself is, "If the PreSonus Firebox is so good, why are they giving stuff away with it?"

C'mon Kurt...this was a serious question. "Real Ok" isn't much information. Is there one that is suited to a certain purpose over the other?

And if the question I should be asking myself is why are they giving away free stuff with the Firebox, what is the answer? I can't say that I know.

These are free mics, and I know they won't sound like a $3,000 Neumann, but I'd still like to get the best deal for the money I am going to spend.

not to belittle your judgement...but it just looks to me like an added incentive to buy a sketchy unit like a Presonous Firebox...both the B1 and JM27 are bottom of the barrel condenser mics, as far as im concerned...if you're interested in audio production you should look at it as an investment.

now, im not recommending you go out and buy an Apogee, Avalon, and a Neumann...but at least put some time into finding something that will suit your needs the best, instead of justifying your purchase with 'freebies'...

however if you're set on the Presonous deal then i would go with the SP B1...it seems like a more versatile microphone to me.
