I'm building an LA-2A , following Dave Jahnsen's "How to Build a Tube Compressor/Limiter" guide.

I'm very early into the process but I'd love to hear from others who have done this... OR EVEN ANYONE WHO'S BUILT THEIR OWN GEAR.

The LA-2A specific question I have is thus:

UAudio has reissued the LA-2A and has a part called the T4 Cell, which is their new version of the famous T4B. Is this replacement part better or worse than the JBL or ADL versions?

The Global question I have is thus:

Who can recommend a good place for fabricating a chassis? I'm looking to get a heavy gauge aluminum chassis face, like the  http://www.dwfearn… DW Fearn Mic Pre. Any ideas?

Otherwise, I welcome any other comments from anyone who's followed this guide and built a LA-2A !

Thanks!

great resources

Thanks Kev,

Those are both great links. I found that web site last night, read all about the [="http://www.prodigy-pro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=175"]Bloo kit[/]="http://www.prodigy-…"]Bloo kit[/], and ordered one.

Over the course of a ton of reading I realized that 1.) Dave's book is full of errors which require a lot of researching, compiling, and cross-referencing with other forums dedicated to correcting him. and 2.) [[url=http://="http://www.prodigy-…"]Steve's Bloo kit[/]="http://www.prodigy-…"]Steve's Bloo kit[/] kicks butt and he's a super nice guy.

Easy decision to switch build plans!

Dave's book is a good reference and did inspire many to have a go.
I haven't heard from Dave for a very long time but did hear on the grape-vine that there was and has been a few updates.

Yes Steve is cool and so to are many of the others.

Don't get overly excited and run before you can walk ... take is slow and choose wisely.

I think most will know I am keep on JLM Audio gear and Joes DIY stuff is excellent ... with more coming very soon.

If you look you can find my sites and if you every need me I'm never far away.

Im very much a newbie when it comes to building this stuff...

I mostly just observe these forums but thought I would mention that I picked up a few bloo kits this past winter.

I couldnt be anymore happy about it. The metal work is really nice. very comprehensive kit (considering that theres a lot of mechanical parts involved in it)

the manual was very detailed. I put them up agains an original teletronix that I have had for years and couldnt tell a difference in sound. I know many people have built these on their own but steve was a god send by making this one easy...

I didnt have to spend countless hours searching for odd parts, instead I was able to spend my time building it and actually finishing it!

plus I feel theres more value in these being that they are packaged nicely... they look like blue la2's :D
