Also check out the Tech Talk forum- there's heaps of knowledge and information there, and it's a great place to start if you're just getting into electronics :D

Thank you very much for your recommendations; Group DIY is indeed inspirational but I still need to learn some things before I can fully understand what's being conveyed there let alone contribute anything worthwhile. Ethan, your article "The Hardware Tutor" is an excellent primer, it has at once demystified some basic concepts yet posed just as many questions for me! On another note, your frustrations over Conn. traffic lights are certainly shared in PA, it is amazing how technologically advanced and common-sensically deprived America can be. Thanks again for your recommendations, I really appreciate it!

For sure, I see these problems everywhere I go. In fact, I'll say that an intersection that is set up properly is the very rare exception.
