Hi, I have a little home studio and am finding that I am fascinated with analog recording gear, I want to get into the electronics of it more but I'm really not sure what books to get. I need something for beginners, that addresses how to read schematics and hopefully has some simple projects. Also, I would like to learn about transformer balanced and class A pres/amps, any recommendations would really be appreciated, there's quite a confusing sea of books out there about electrical engineering.

Hi Brandon,

Yea, check out Ethans page, there's some good projects and info. And there's a whole world of audio electronics over at the Group DIY page....

There's how-to articles and projects and even pictures of stuff people have made- really inspirational!

Also check out the Tech Talk forum- there's heaps of knowledge and information there, and it's a great place to start if you're just getting into electronics :D

Thank you very much for your recommendations; Group DIY is indeed inspirational but I still need to learn some things before I can fully understand what's being conveyed there let alone contribute anything worthwhile. Ethan, your article "The Hardware Tutor" is an excellent primer, it has at once demystified some basic concepts yet posed just as many questions for me! On another note, your frustrations over Conn. traffic lights are certainly shared in PA, it is amazing how technologically advanced and common-sensically deprived America can be. Thanks again for your recommendations, I really appreciate it!

Well you came to the right place to ask more questions! :)

For sure, I see these problems everywhere I go. In fact, I'll say that an intersection that is set up properly is the very rare exception.
