Better- more options, more flexibility, huge amount of editing, (theoretically) easier upgrade path than analog. Much more customizable.

Worse- more options, huge amount of editing available, large number of pitfalls with setup and implimentation, much more complicated issues dealing with data integrity and backup, costs more than you think to get it to actually sound good. Inexpensive DAW's run on operating systems that are not specifically designed for that one job.

Cost can be anywhere from your current desktop and some freeware to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
