I've noticed the very attractive pricing on the Yamaha i88x firewire interface (must not be selling). But, I've also read a few horror stories about MLan and the quality / stability of its drivers for XP. Also I hear some firewire devices are pretty fussy about which firewire boards / chips are being used.

Any comments about this unit and and Yamaha's software? Is it ready for prime time?

HI,
using just the i88x or a pair is fine.
we ran into issues when attempting to connect multiple mlan products. EG 2 188, 2 01v, 1 o1x.

the mlan can only handle 32 ins/out i doubt it will grow past that ever.

i think this is a limitation on firewire itsself.

the driver install is a little tricky, but once done works great.

G'day,

FWIW I run the 01x and i88x without any hassles at all on Win XP. The DM2000 derived mic pres on the i88x are about as transparent as you can get and the setup as a whole is great. With the new price on the i88x I'm going to get a second one. The mic pres alone are worth 2 or 3 times the $399 asking price.

Cheers,
Matt
