Hello everyone! This is my first post on the forum. After doing some research, I've come to you guys for some help in finding quality equipment that won't break the bank. I already HAVE a set up, but need to take it up a notch. I have a friend whos an audio engineer. Hes got a great ear and delivers results, but doesnt get the hint that I can't afford most of the high end stuff hes pushing on me... I'm not poor, but I dont have $5,000 either! Hence why I've come to this forum...
A little about me:

So I have a WORKING set up, but want/need to take the next step.
The guitars, bass and drums were all recorded direct. The drum samples are from Superior Drummer, recorded with a Roland electric kit and a midi interface.
What I have:
DAW: Cubase 5 on a Windows 7 system. 6 gigs RAM with an AMD Athlon II X2 235e Processor 2.7ghz
Interface: POD UX2 with library updates
Preamp: Samson CValve
Monitors: Studiophile DX4's (these need to be replaced as one of them is acting up on me)
Mics: SM57, AT4040
I am looking to upgrade the interface, preamp and monitors. I will also be purchasing a Radial XAmp for re-amping.
Any and all suggestions would be appreciated! My budget is flexible, but I'd like to keep the upgrades under $1500 on the HIGH end of the spectrum.

since it's possible to sample off a pillow, or trigger some kick/snr off a guitar. tough one, dsp would be tough to recommend w/ so much native 'vst' power. i might relax a bit w/a metal recording focus. The real make or break for metal type stuff is drums, and the break is vocals. metal vocals are very dynamic, they sing they scream, they nail the stage together w/ the mic. metal vocals are dynamic. they go from bottom of lung, to spoken. i think it's fun to mix, but upfront, ya gotta get some sounds. up front your looking for an inter-face to me. everything else fine. monitors interact w/ taste and the room.
you have all you need 'buy at the store wise'. dynamic mics can't be exploited until a slightly adjusted move to your interface setup

Your setup looks perfectly good to me, except maybe the interface and the monitors if you want to change them.
