So my audio drive is currently FAT32 and separate from my system drive, which is also FAT32. Because Logic does not like FAT32, I have been trying un-successfully to format to NTFS. I was also unsuccessful converting to NTFS, but I really want to format vs convert. I've had no luck working from XP or a command window. The following is the message I get:

"Format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Format may run if this volume is dismounted first. ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. Would you like to force a dismount? (y/n)"

I then select Y to attempt to force a dismount and get the following message:

"Cannot lock the drive. The volume is still in use."

Any ideas? My system is as follows:

AMD Athlon 1.1
Abit KT7 Raid
IBM 15g ATA100 system
IBM 45g ATA100 audio
512meg mushkin high perf. ram
G400 video
RME Hammerfall

I guess something has still got a hold of the drive, but I'll be darned if I can figure out what. I even did a basic boot up without all the extra drivers and things to see if that would do it, but to luck!

How do Opus?? Thanks for your reply. Already tried that and it won't let me format. In fact, format is greyed out when you select it, right click, etc. That's how I originally went about doing this. When I was unsuccessful I went to a command window and attempted through "format /fs:ntfs drive letter:, etc., etc.
Will not convert either!

Anyhue, in the disk manager there are two parts to the disk, one on the left hand side(which is the disk label) and one on the right which is the disk status.
Right click on the right hand side and then choose delete partition. Did you do this?
Wait...I see you have an onboard RAID? Is this where the drive is located? Attached to the RAID controller? If so you will need to boot into the RAID configuration and do it there!

No....Duhhh

Wait...I see you have an onboard RAID? Is this where the drive is located? Attached to the RAID controller? If so you will need to boot into the RAID configuration and do it there!

I suppose If I had, it probably would have worked. Anyhow, as I write this the drive is re-formatting. I reinstalled XP and then it let me re-format from disk manager. :tu:
