OK, so I have this big pile of computer parts littering my living room, as I am now putting together two audio computers, porting all my stuff from the POS house computer to my *old* audio computer, and getting my Mac all backed up and ready to give with a clean install to my brother in law. I will keep everyone posted on the builds.

Opus- one question- I got the same 4U rack case you suggested (deep sucker...). What are the little pin-down arm thingies suspended in the middle of the case? Never seen that before, and I didn't get a manual.

Ahhh....grasshopper!!!! Those are for those really long ass PCI Cards for server machines...if you look by where the front side fan is there are wierd looking slots..those are for the back of the long ass PCI cards to sit in and those little arms stabalize the middle of the long ass PCI Cards...
By the way..there was no manual for the case!!

I was wondering myself. I put one in the floppy bay for now. I've looked for an add on bay(to go inside where that large fan is), but can't find any. I'm thinking of adding a bracket from an old case, and hanging it from that fan bracket with rubber bushings like the 5 1/4 bay does. (That 5 1/4 bay is perfection).

OK, after a day of configuration, I finally have two computers that work! It actually all came together pretty easily, aside from dumbass me reading the Maxtor jumper chart upside down, and spending an hour trying to figure out why neither motherboard would recognize any of three Maxtor drives. I have not done anything but install all the hardware and Windows 2000 yet, as I am waiting for Nuendo and Wavelab to show up. Haven't done many of the specific tuning tweaks for W2K, either. So, I've got;

ASUS P4T-E
P41.6A
512m Kingston RDRAM
Plexwriter 12/10/32
Sony 52X
Maxtor 740 20g
Maxtor 740 60g (in a Lian-Li removable bay)
Matrox G550 dual video
MOTU 2408
D-Link Firewire card
floppy
... in an Enermax server tower that has been an absolute joy to work with. This computer also got a refurbished 21" Sun/Sony monitor that was a really good deal from surpluscomputers.com.

AND

ASUS TUSL-2
Celeron 700 (I already had this- PIII 1g+ soon)
512m PC100
Yamaha 8/8/24 CDRW
Seagate 6G 7200 ATA66
Maxtor 740 40g (in lian-li removable bay)
Matrox G400 single head
SIIG firewire card
floppy
Mwave 4U rack case

This one's waiting on a MOTU 896, and will be the portable rig- I've also got a KDS 15" flatscreen that will do portable duty, and will be the second monitor for the big rig when the little one's not out.
