Thank you for replying. I am dissatisfied with the quality of my on board sound card with the line in.

I am connecting from my line out on my practice amp which is a spider 3 line 6. I record my guitar tracks to a click and then I record my electronic drums. I want to record the TD-3 from the line out and as well as midi.

I am looking for high quality, low noise, basic recordings for writing purposes. I will use real drums and amps and mics in the studio.

Currently, the line out is giving me all kinds of buzzing from my monitor and even when i turn that off it sounds like background white noise is there.

I miss the basic sound of my old Tascam 4 track, but I prefer the power and ease of use with Cubase SX.

Any suggestions?
Cheers!

I'm still unsure of which brand to go with... I've tried the maudio usb and presonus inspire 1394 but I found them the be quite unpredictable and I don't like installing drivers that aren't certified by MS. Does anybody have a preamp that is designed for XP with 2 line ins, 2 XLR's and a Midi they could recommend?

Thanks again! cheers

Yes thank you exactly. I had a m-audio mbox and a presonus inspire 1394.

Very annoying working with those pieces of gear. The digi 002 was pretty good but I still think I can do much better. What is considered to be the top Mic Preamp/audio interface for a PC? it can be anything, just a basic single chanel XLR or 1/4" or what ever you consider to be the best.

You're going to have to spend a lot of money to get better than the Digi 002. The rack is already $800. It was $1500 or more when they first came out. The Digi 003 is $1700.00.

MBox is also Digidesign and not M-Audio. Also, you should be able to get very good if not excellent results from one of these. Particularly if it is the original MBox which had much better preamps than the current ones. Even without the Black Lion mod.

Likewise the Inspire. You should easily be able to get very good if not excellent demos or even full on EPs with this piece of gear. Maybe you just need to apply yourself more.

There is nothing wrong with any of that stuff. It's all good. In fact, at the price you are looking at, most of the gear will be of relatively equal quality. Not one of them particularly good. $100 is a good down payment for a cheap interface but as your entire budget is a waste of money.
