I am interested in recording 2 tracks at once from a guitar...one would be from a mic in front of a speaker, and one would just go direct into the system. (I am tracking into a computer using Cubase SX.)

I am thinking that I could split the guitar output, and send one line to the guitar amp imput (which is mic'ed), and one directly into one of the hi-z inputs on my PreSonus mic preamp, which in turn would go directly into the computer and to "tape". I can then manipulate the clean signal in a number of ways if I so desire.

My question is:

If I split the guitar output (hi-z), will that detract from either of the signals? Can I just use a Y-cable, or do I need some form of specialized splitter that amplifies each signal? I know it will work with a Y-cable, so more specifically then, what is the *best* way to do this, with the least possible degredation in signal?.
