Well if you could afford it you'd definately benefit from doing your whole record at a studio like steve's. I've pretty much decided that his setup is perfect. I think in his gear list under mics it should just say every mic ever made ever. Anyway i'll stop drooling. Lots of records are dome with a seperate tracking and mixing ae. There are arguments in both directions. In my opinion if both engineers are good at what they do and have adaquate equipment then the results should be good. I don't know what music your into but if you've heard the new tool cd that was done at several studio's. I can't recall where. I know they went one place to record drums with an api console. Everything else was tracked at a different studio on a neve, then they moved to another studio to mix on an ssl, obviously for the superior automation. Of course they have a producer that was with them through the entire process. So bottom line is competent ae with adequate gear should = good record. Recording drums at electrical and then doing the rest in bobs shed with his 002 would be silly.
