This thread explains what tags are all about and how you can help us improve the content:
This link https://xenforo.com/community/threads/thread-tagging.100267/ also explains what our tagging is about, including how the administrators of recording.org manage tags behind the scene.

Hey, this got me thinking.

Boswell , DonnyThompson, @Sean G, Kurt Foster dvdhawk anyone for that matter.. Thoughts?
I'm thinking RO has some of the most useful discussion on compression yet we seem to be refer readers to outside content when it comes to some of the more technical, even fundamental stuff? We should be writing our own references and tagging it so all we need to do it type the word and it autolinks or even better, it is part of our tagging references. (y)

Thoughts?

As an example: Look at the awesome threads MrEase has put together about jitter. http://recording.org/tags/jitter/

Our reference about compression could be "tagged" here: http://recording.org/tags/compression/

Cool I had the same question D did.

To see if a tag has been added into the database, when you are adding a tag to a thread, tying tying a tag and wait to see if the cursor looks for related tags.

Your mouse cursor searches tags like we also see when we are using the DonnyThompson .

This feature helps target tags in the database
Make sense?

I'll double check this by testing it on a thread of mine. Because I'm using a tablet, and no mouse I want to be clear on what should happen.

So if I add the tag that's been used, the little dialog box that pops up when I start typing audiokid for instance, would pop up.?

The Media section

Forum tags also share media tags and resource tags. Its all under one roof.

Example: video on "compression tutorials", you could include a well written forum thread in with a video tutorial tag.

A year down the road, all you would need to do is search for that tag and it would give you instant access to the urls that have to do with compression tutorials.

To help better improve the forum threads and tags, I have been using the main search engine to find and re-tag threads.

Example, I just started tagging threads that are about "patchbays".
I use the search engine first, then look up all the results and go through them one by one (very tedious work). I look to see how they are tagged or if they are.

I also rename poorly titled thrreads as a lot of people over the years don't title their threads well. Or, as the thread evolves, the answer is discovered so we can often fine tune a thread title.

This is how we can include tags to better represent what a thread is really about. Tags help identify content beyond the title. They help group or cross reference as well.

All this stuff helps improve and organize our community. This helps members group their content too.
This is what I do in my spare time. Its all part of managing and maintaining a content management system.

Wow, after spending the better part of the week learning all I can about tags, if we get this right, it will be invaluable.
Bos and so many members over the years have added information not found elsewhere.

Boswell , I want to start organizing the best of the best. You are amazing. I wonder if I should buy this add-on. Are you following this thread and tags? I'm just starting to understand the naming better. I'm now thinking we need to be very careful who we allow to add or edit tags.

I'm sorry to say I am a little underwhelmed by the tagging facility, at least as much as I have seen it so far. It could well be that it needs to settle down, find its place and its natural usage, and then we will all wonder how we did without it. It's important not to overuse it or force topics into it that don't easily fit.

I can quite believe that tags could have major advantages for newcomers to the site or to occasional dippers, so I think it's a good idea.

I'm a little late to the party as I had everything pulled down for a major upgrade over the past week, but I think this is a great idea.

I'm a little guilty myself of sometimes using outside sources when referencing, I think I need to be more conscious of using the info we have here as opposed to looking for info outside of the forum.

The only thing that I would consider is if we ended up with too many tags for each post, would this take away from the main topic?

Is there a limit to the number of tags per post?
