Hi guys,
I'm new to this. I work for a small university where we tape classes from the teachers. We don't have a lot of $ but we recognize the need for good mikes and tape decks. Could i get some suggestions as to the best tape decks with micraphone inputs and mike to go with them. I know that's not the best way, and I'd be willing to change if someone can give me some clear advice.

I'll second the minidisk idea. It's small enough to fit in your shirt pocket. Go to Radio Shack and get some of those one to two dollar elec. condensor mic capsules and build your own stereo mic for a few bucks. There's a lot of DIY pages on the net that will show you how to build these mics. Try to find a mini disk player with a level control. This also works great to record rehearsals. Although not quite CD quality it will beat any cassette deck hands down.

I think a minidisk might be a good recording solution for you. Cheap, inexpensive to operate and reasonably simple in use. Many of these come supplied with professional connectors for interfacing with quality mics. If the instructor is standing or sitting at a desk or podium, a PZM mic would be a great solution. If they are moving about, quality pick up can become problematic. It gets a bit more complicated at this point with a lavaliere mic and a wireless belt pack and receiver being the solution.
