Hey guys! Look, I have a huge issue! I have some pretty descent gear but I'm just not producing a good clean sound. I have a Focusrite isa one, dbx 266xl, and m-audio profire 610. i have an okay mic you could say; Studio Projects B1. Is there a certain way I should have things hooked up? Certain cables? And does my computer have anything to do with the overall sound? I mean I'm just lost. Could you guys shed some light on me?

need samples of the problems man. cant go any further with out it.
seems your recording vocals....... you need to make sure your not overloading the mic pre, overloading the input to the converter. watch your levels on all your gear and the DAW. are you sure you have the mic facing the front?? how much compression are you putting on your vocals on the input??
try recording things all flat, just a touch of compression based on what your vocals for the song are, in other words dont hit it to hard or you will suck the life out of the track.
shoot me some samples my email is on my webpage

If your room acoustics suck then you're going to get bad sound even with good gear. Have you acoustically treated your recording space? That made a big difference with me and my gear isn't all that good. Actually, my recordings aren't that impressive either, but like I said, "my gear gear isn't all that good."

I've heard that if you don't have a really good word-clock that it will also affect your recording quality. Black-Lion Audio has a fantastic external word-clock (called a Micro Clock mk2) if that's an issue.
