How do you take 24bit audio down to 16bit
I've read up about taking 24bit audio down to 16bit without loosing the sonic clarity of the original composision. My DAW software has the Apogee UV-22 algorithm included. Is this used or is there some other method? Or is this process considered as truncating or dithering? :w:

Recording on older 16 bit ADAT tape
I have a new 20 bit xt20 and have some tapes that I had formatted (with drums recorded at 16 bit) How do I make this work as I dont want to lose the old drum tracks. they're great!

To Normalize or Not, and 24 bit recording to 16 bit CD..
I have a couple simple questions I have never gotten a good response on...
1. Should I normalize tracks after I record them. Back in the day I normalized everything and I think I got some pretty good results. I have heard that normalization can introduce unwanted noise, but personally haven't run into that situation yet. If not, when should you normalize?
Monitoring at 16bits
Hi!
I have seen some people commenting on it and I also do it during mastreing tasks along with an ADAT bridge/Tascam DA40 machine...
Do you guys monitor at 44k/16 bits so a :w: s to compensate for any minor losses, bass shrinking, anemic fades and so?
Hope to hear from ya!
Thanks

16 bit vs. . 24 bit, again - recording vocals sans compres
I've heard of a number producers on and offline who are recording vocals without adding compression until >after< the A/D conversion.
16 bit vs. . 24 bit
Just wanted to inform you guys that there's an intriguing debate going on over at homerecording on the issue of the benefits of 24 bit recording after dithering to 16 bit for CD. Perhaps the discussion should be brought here?

16bit trks to 24 for mixing: gain vs. . pain?
As a mixing assignment I'm presented with tracks recorded with a so-so 16 bit interface. They're not terrible, but of course they leave something to be desired.
What I'm asking is would it be benficial for me to convert them (internally via software) to 24 bit files, or perhaps just the stereo mix as a 24 bit file, before they ultimately get dithered back to 16?

16 bit dither?
when mixing(bouncing) a 16-bit mix internally (Pro ToolsIII), is it necessary, or at least important, to have a dither plugin on the master fader? ie. Waves L1 set to dither to 16-bit? i've heard various things about truncation, mixer channel summing, etc. (yes, i realize this may yet be another case of DUC-induced-paranoia!)
