What standalone Pre would be a step up from the Tac pre's ?

The pre's in the Tac have made me more then happy but I would like to have some other flavor of pre to choose from.

I would be using the pre mainly for vocals.

I can get a AMEK s1000 channel strip from a Tac scorpion board for real cheap, ($50) and I was wondering how hard it would be to get it rewired with some xlrs and get a power supply for one of these things?

I need a preamp to record mainly vocals, nylon string guitar, trumpet and flute and to a lesser extent didgeridoo amd percussion. From what I have been able to find through research and my money constraints these preamps, dbx 786, ISA 428, AMEK Pure path, are to my liking.

I have to choose between the two mic preamps: RNP or AMEK 9098 DMA. Which is better, which one to buy? Has anybody used or tested these side by side (money is not the question)?
I'd really appreciate any advice. ! :)

some say the pre in the eq version sounds better, some say they're both exactly the same

Does anybody know where i can find a AMEK medici stereo eq? I 've been looking all over the place for one. Is anybody selling one?I will buy!!

Just reviving the preamp thread.
I'm curious to know what people here think of the 9098.
I know some people think it's boring. Given that one man's boring is another man's transparent, I'd like to know how it compares with the standard classical preamps.

Ok so I have an AMEK tac magnum and my problem is as follows.

channel 5 and 6 are flipped its a hard thing for me to understand as well so i will explain it like this.

Plug mic into input 5 shows on channel 6.

plug mic into input 6 shows on 5.

Hi guys. I'm in the market for a new pre and I'm really interested in the Amek/Neve CIB. It seems like a good all-in-one solution for my needs. My question is, though, how much should I be looking to spend on one? I know that's a weird question, but I can't seem to find a consistent price and I don't understand why.
